As we go deeper into summer and the mercury level rises on the thermostats, it is perhaps the best time to bring back our favorite summer hacks, including all things pool, beach, cookouts, and more! You probably already know some of these great warm-weather ideas, but we bet there are a few you haven’t ever heard of before, too. So what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in.

Cold water bottles on the go

The only thing that can make a boiling-hot day worse is trying to quench your thirst with lukewarm water. To keep this from happening to you, fill some water bottles halfway, then lay them on their side in the freezer. When it’s time for a cool drink, grab a bottle, fill it up with your beverage of choice, and let the wall of ice in the bottle keep your drink perfectly chilled and refreshing for hours.

Swap out your winter emergency car bag with one for summer

If you live in the States and experience harsh or severe winter, then chances are you have some sort of “emergency bag” in your car in case you get stuck in the snow in a remote area. Well, getting stuck in the middle of nowhere and in the sweltering heat is just as dangerous.

Stock a second bag with essentials like bottled water, a second solar charger (one that stays in the bag), a reflective blanket for shade, and some snacks that can withstand a bit of heat. Pro tip: you can also add necessary items such as sunscreen, mosquito repellent lotions, and bugs spray. Keep this car bag right next to your year-round emergency car kit.

Banish bugs naturally with this fruit fly jar

Fresh fruit tastes even better during Summer, and don’t the fruit flies just know it! To banish bugs naturally, place fruit peels in the bottom of a jar, cover them with cling film, and pierce several holes through it using a toothpick. Those troublesome flies will be attracted inside but won’t be able to get out again once they are trapped in the jar.

Homemade sunblock

Traditional sunscreen may keep your skin safe from the sun’s dangerous UV rays, but that protection comes at a cost. Many of the big-name brands contain chemicals that rank high on the EWG Skin Deep Database. Fortunately, you can have a natural fix waiting right in your fridge. Pour pure aloe vera juice (available at most drugstores) into an ice tray, and then freeze it for an always-ready-to-apply salve for sunburns.

Take your drinks in the pool with a DIY floating mini bar

There’s nothing better than being able to enjoy the cool pool water with a floating mini bar. Rather than getting out of the pool every time you have to grab yourself a drink or a snack, use pool floats or pool noodles to secure your drinks container from all sides. This nifty raft will help your drinks float with you and stay cool, even on harsh summer days.
