Jennifer Aniston, Khloe Kardashian, and Halle Berry all have one thing in common – they have all raved about intermittent fasting at least once. Now that you know these celebrities’ secret to a great physique, should you try this diet?

Intermittent Fasting

This diet has two approaches, dietician Maya Bach explains: first is alternating between regular and low-calorie days, whereas the second is having eating windows in a day.

In the first kind, a person will eat the typical amount of food he/she consumes per day and then the following day, he/she will only eat 500 calories. The second one involves having an eight-hour window when they can eat and then fast on the remaining hours of the day.

In a 16:8 intermittent fasting, a person can eat within 8 hours and fast for 16 hours

When it is time for you to eat, it is advisable that you consume nutritious food than others that are high in calories but less in nutritional content. Plus, the expert suggests picking fiber-rich foods that keep you full longer.

Is it For You?

It is still best that you consult with your dietician first before starting on any dietary approach, especially since intermittent fasting would require one to only eat within eight hours a day. This could be extreme for people who can’t function well when they skip one meal or those with illnesses.

Plus, if your job requires physical labor, you need the calories to have energy. For moms who stay at home and have lots of chores to finish on a daily basis, this could also prove to be a challenge.

Maya also said that this eating pattern is not for breastfeeding and pregnant women because the body needs enough calories for the production of milk.

Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

A lot of people have already shared the wonders of intermittent fasting – the most resounding is weight loss. This is because you are basically limiting your calorie intake in a few hours and this approach promotes the release of norepinephrine, which burns fat.

Intermittent fasting is said to be effective in weight loss

Those who do intermittent fasting also become conscious of the nutritional content of their food, Maya said, which means they are becoming more aware of other healthy habits.

The Downside

According to the dietician, the main problem with intermittent fasting is the decrease in energy. This is why it is highly important that you should eat the right kind of food during your eating window so that your body will have something to burn once you’re in your fasting hours.

Cravings could mean you lack nutrients

The expert also advised watching out for your cravings because these show what nutrients your body lacks.
