Katy Perry has been through many ups and downs in her career, from her short-lived marriage to Russell Brand to a very public feud with former BFF, and through it all, she has learned to prioritize what’s really important: self-care.

Being under constant spotlight and facing harsh criticism from the media is never easy. In fact, it’s one of the biggest pitfalls of stardom, one that can crack even the toughest in the industry.

In such a case, it becomes all the more important to prioritize what is important and shut out the negativity so that it doesn’t affect your personal life or mental health.

The 35-year-old singer said she has learned to sift through the criticism and selectively listen to what’s real while discarding all the negativity. Perry understands that sometimes, dealing with stress means taking a step back from her hectic schedule and investing in self-care.

While talking to the reporters at an event for American Idol, the singer said that she has tried many forms of self-care over the past, including therapy and meditation, both of which have worked wonders in their own way.

The I Kissed a Girl singer has been a longtime judge on the reality television show alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

While talking to the reporters, she shared a valuable piece of advice that she had received from someone a long time ago: people will have all sorts of opinions about you, it’s up to you to believe them or not.

At the end of the day, being confident in yourself and knowing who you are will allow you to look past the negativity without letting it affect you. If someone calls you fat or ugly, it shouldn’t really affect you unless you actually believe it to be true.

If you do think that way about yourself, you need to take time to mend your relationship with yourself and work on self-confidence. Of course, having a great support system of close friends and family always helps, and Katy Perry has plenty of that in her life.

Social media has made it easier and more accessible for trolls and haters to bully people online, which is why the singer thinks that it has become ever so necessary to prepare yourself for the negativity and not allow it to get to you.
