If you don’t know that your diet greatly affects your skin, then you’re definitely behind and in dire need of an intervention. If you’re not convinced about this, look at Ashley Tisdale’s glowing skin, which she said was a result of the food she eats.

Dermatologists and experts have repeatedly underlined the importance of what you put inside your mouth to healthy skin, and the High School Musical actress certainly understands that. Ashley admitted she used to suffer from breakouts but visit her Instagram profile and you won’t believe that she even gets blemishes.

But apparently, it wasn’t just the work of beauty products. The 34-year-old credited her skin’s clarity to being dairy-free for half a decade now.

Yes, it’s hard to avoid anything with dairy (read: cheese and milk tea) – even Ashley hinted she started rough. But don’t worry, once you get the hang of it, you’ll seldom crave it, the actress shared.

Of course, there are many factors that can bring about breakouts, but dermatologists suggest that if you notice that a certain type of food triggers flare-ups and acne, then it’s an indication that you should limit consumption of that food.

Dermatologist Yoon-Soo Cindy Bae advises to gradually decrease the amount of food intake that tends to cause breakouts so you can observe if it really is the culprit. As with the case of the celebrity, Union Square Laser Dermatology’s expert, Y. Claire Chang said she had clients who reported that their breakouts were aggravated or triggered their acne by dairy products.

There have been many claims that suggest going dairy-free is beneficial for good skin and Washington, DC dermatologist Sarika Snell agrees. She pointed out that this diet will not only prevent breakouts, it will also improve your skin health.

Of all the dairy products, skim milk is the worst to consume because it can cause skin-related problems. Apart from the hormones found in this, it also has higher sugar content than whole milk, Avnee Shah, another dermatologist, explained.

High sugar means a high glycemic index, a common culprit that causes breakouts. So if you have considered removing dairy from your diet, don’t expect results overnight.

The doctors said you can observe skin improvements two to three weeks after you decided to throw away dairy products. If you may be having a hard time ditching the cheese away, there are many vegan kinds of cheese and milk on the market that taste like the real thing.
